The Flagrant Arrogance of the Liberal Left

Aug 11, 2009 Author Scot Cerullo

During the big tobacco Senate subcomitte hearings of the 1990’s, liberal Congressmen were as giddy as school children. Having rounded up these tobacco profiteers in one room, they pounced like righteous ferrets upon each in turn.

Henry Waxman excoriated one CEO after another, using his time to showcase his intense distain for such products, and as the proceedings unfolded, others took their turn, quoting facts and statistics about the results of smoking.

Interestingly, no effort was made to make these products illegal. The natural, indeed organic result of all this anger and research, should have led to remove such a destructive product line from the shelves of America, but they did not.

Why? Why would such a righteous body of elected officials use such precious time to insult, impune and interrogate, yet oddly fall short of outlawing a product line which kills more Americans each year than all illegal drugs combined?

The answer is taxes. They want the taxes. But they also know that they have to put on a show for their constituencies. to be seen berating and scolding these horrendous CEO’s who produce a legal product…..legally.

And so goes the arrogance and hypocrisy of the left.

Just recently, Senator Barbara Boxer found herself in a subcommittee meeting before the Chairman of the black Chamber of Commerce. It was a discussion of Cap and Trade and she chose to counter this gentleman with a document from “another black group”, which rightfully enraged the Chairman, who saw it for what it was, a racially motivated move away from the issue at hand and one of “I have black people who disagree with your black people.”

Boxer has since been upbraided like a suburban school girl for her comments and her reelection bid now seems less certain.

While republicans are clearly not without their faults, hypocrisy and arrogance are owned and operated by the left.

Righteous indignation trumps constitutional enumerated powers, political correctness suffocates honest discussion, affirmative action provides  a career arch for unqualified people to be placed in positions that directly impact your life on a daily basis.

Most recently the incident in Cambridge Massachusetts taught us many lessons. It taught us that Obama’s rush to judgement led to poor judgement, (just as his rush to pass expensive and lasting legislation without full transparency will indeed lead to many years of withdrawal). It taught us that the original woman who called 911 never mentioned the color of the man who appeared to be breaking into a home. It taught us that emotion that fuels perception can never lead to anything good.

And in a rookie move, Obama felt compelled to show his true colors by stating that the Boston police had acted “stupidly”. This was declared alongside the sober statement that he did not have all the facts.

Whether the issue is denigrating capitalists for producing a legal product that is politically incorrect, or pretending to be enlightened to racial issues when in fact the method employed shows, by it’s own purpose, racism, or a president who rushed to judgement, picks sides and involves himself in regional matters, these are just a small sampling of examples of how the left operates, which is poorly.

The arrogance of liberalism is a subtext that runs through all their policies, namely that the government knows better than the unwashed masses, that the government can and should take care of its citizens, and that in the name of fairness and equality, tectonic shifts away from what is written in the Constitution must take place so that we, as a country, can move to a softer, more understanding place.Obama_A_New_Order

But when one looks at the results of liberalism, one sees failure. Whether it is the war on poverty, the public school system, hell the US Post Office, we see a governing body unable to be effective and too scared to say no.

The arrogance has peaked, and the public has taken notice. The “mobs” of angry senior citizens filling town hall meetings is evidence of such. The lack of readership of established liberal newspapers and the lack of viewers for long-standing network and cable television stations is evidence of such.

Despite the liberal’s best efforts, the truth is getting out. And the truth is simple: Most Americans want the government to stay out of their way and stop finding new reasons for increasing control.

Keep it up. Say it on Twitter! Speak your mind at a town hall meeting. Write your elected official. Don’t stop.

Don’t stop. Because it drives the Liberals crazy.

Love it! And you are so correct. They really believe that they know better – and then want us to throw our Common Sense out of the window to buy into their ideals! ARG – Bravo – well written and articulate!
